The Golden Age of Science Fiction is when You’re 12 years old

The golden age of Science Fiction was between 1938 – 1946. The stories written in this time were very idea driven and more scientifically correct than for instance space operas because many of the Science Fiction writers in this time were scientists. This doesn’t necessarily mean that these stories were entertaining to read, but the writers got better with writing through the eight years period. The stories made in the years called The Golden Age of Science Fiction mainly had a male main character that was either English or American. The stories were published in magazines.

Often the plot of the stories were fast-paced and the character arcs were vague. They were often focusing on technical details rather than character. As scientists they were interested in thinking in scientific details rather than interpersonal conflicts. Response letters would often critique scientific details in a story which shows that there were an audience for this type of fiction. This subgenre of science fiction can’t live without the science, the stories can’t be removed from their premises.

This type of story is still written today, but now goes under the name Hard Science Fiction. The subgenre needed a better name. Hard science fiction is so to say the child of The Golden Age of science fiction or a tribute to the golden age of science fiction. Therefore The Golden Age of science fiction isn't produced anymore, but it is still consumed through the work of Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke, Robert A. Heinlein and the like.
