The Double-Edged Sword

Saturday evening, I attended an event by Syssel, having no clue that I only new a glimpse of the history of my own area. Nordjylland, where I have lived for almost my whole life. Sofie Zehngraff and Nikolaj Skjold, the couple behind Syssel, have done a tremendous amount of research on the matter. Really well done!

Aalborg has been growing with the industry before becoming a university town in 1974.

The podcast called "Det Tve-Æggede Sværd" (The two-edged sword) by Syssel is about the mineral called Asbestos. It was a fiber used to mix into the cement. It was almost indestructible and because of that used long after it was discovered that the dust from asbestos was literally killer dust causing fatal health issues like asbestosis or lung cancer for those exposed to it. This story is not only crucial for Aalborg and the people affected by it but also weighty for anything standing in front of us, that is allowed to happen because of production and money. Human lives have no price. There is never a good excuse to keep going in the same direction, if it is already proven to be noxious.
